Facilities

In addition to our traditional classrooms, ISG Jubail has rooms equipped especially for science, art, cooking, technology, physical education and music.

New Learning Spaces for
2011-2012

New classrooms inaugurated at the beginning of school year 2011-2012 include:

  • Two new computer labs, next to the library
  • Separate building conatining two art rooms, six large classrooms, four small tutorial rooms, computer server room, and extra storage
  • Extension to the nursery building, with three additional rooms for children
    ages 3-5
  • Bus drivers' building

Additional work proposed: to provide more air-conditioned space for physical education activities, so as to allow more varied use of the existing Multi-Purpose Room.

Science

The school has two science laboratories and a wide range of science equipment suitable for students up to Grade 10. One lab has moveable tables and a partially tiled floor and is suitable for advanced physics and other experimentation. The other lab is fully equipped for Chemistry classes with six student workstations and a teacher's desk, each one having gas, water and electricity points and a sink. Both labs have equipment for work on plant growth, and aquariums and animal cages are often used. A safety shower and eyebaths are installed and chemicals are stored safely in locked cabinets according to their properties. The Science Department acts as a resource for teachers of younger students and provides specialist equipment and facilities when required.

Technology

The school has two PC labs, and a library research lab, and all classrooms have at least one computer. Most classrooms have an Interactive WhiteBoard connected to the school network. The building is fully networked and everyone has access to the internet. Appropriate peripherals and software accompany these computers as educational needs dictate. Students are given the opportunity to use technology throughout their schooling. In addition to general computer education, they may also use audio visual equipment such as digital cameras and number of programmable robots when learning control technology.

Library

ISG Jubail Library offers services to staff, students and parents.  There are approximately 20,000 items in the library, including fiction and non-fiction books, reference materials, newspapers, magazines, books on CD and audio-visual material. The circulation/ cataloguing system is fully automated. The addition of a laptop computer suite to our library services has proved an invaluable support to the needs of our curriculum.  Along with SIRS, a kid-friendly research database specifically designed for elementary level students, the library is evolving to meet the needs of our students in a technological world. Other new additions include: a wireless listening center, online BookFlix program, interactive white board technology, student-sized book shelf and a Bedouin tent and rainforest.

All IPC classes have a scheduled time each week for borrowing books and library skills lessons. Junior High and High School students are able to use library services during their break times, study hall or during pre-scheduled lessons with their class teacher. The library staff are on hand to assist students and supply teachers with materials to support their classroom curriculum. Special activities and programs are provided throughout the school year such as book fairs, author visits and reading clubs. Parents of ISG Jubail students are invited to become members of the library during regular school hours.

Sport

The school has a large Multi-Purpose Room, which is used for PE lessons and after-school activities. It has a variety of fixtures which allow for rope work and other gymnastic activities to take place, as well as markings for volleyball and badminton.  The extensive selection of portable equipment allows soccer, hockey, vaulting, short tennis and any number of other activities to take place in the fully air conditioned space.

The mat room is a small purpose-built air conditioned space with wall-to-wall soft matting. This is primarily used for lower school gymnastics and dance lessons and for older children participating in wrestling and fitness activities within it. Outside, the school has  constructed a cover over the 'court' area to give year round protection from the sun / rain. These courts allow for basketball, volleyball & tennis to be played. Adjoining this area is a large 'clay' pitch which is set up for baseball/softball with the appropriate safety netting and caged areas. It is also used for track and field, cricket, soccer and other invasion games. To the rear of the school there is a hard court area with markings for netball, basketball & handball.

There are a variety of freestanding goals / baskets for use at playtime & during PE lessons. There are also a number of painted floor activities such as hopscotch for the younger children. Adjacent to the hard court area there are two sand areas - one for soccer / team games and one with swings & climbing equipment for the younger children. In the centre of the school there is a shady courtyard. Here you will find tetherball, table football, table tennis and our piece d'resistance "The Climbing Wall". This free standing wall has been specially developed to contain climbs of varying difficulty including overhangs and it is where regular climbing competitions take place.

After School Activities

After-School Activities (A.S.A.s) run on Saturdays, Sundays, and Tuesdays of each school week. Each A.S.A. starts at 2:25pm and finishes at 3:25pm, unless stated otherwise.  Some of the activities which are offered include: volleyball, table tennis, soccer, rock climbing, netball, Jubail Cricket League, indoor cricket,  basketball, cooking, puzzle games and art clubs, and many more.

For students who are interested in taking part in After School Activities, there will be a monthly bulletin sent home. The bulletin will outline the following month’s activities. In addition to the monthly bulletin, students can check with their classroom teachers who will be more than happy to let them know what is coming up. Students who plan to participate first fill out a permission form and hand it back to the activity supervisor. Many of the school teams are formed from participation in these activities.

Our teams often take part in the Saudi Arabian Intra-Kingdom Activities Conference (S.A.I.K.A.C.) tournaments as well as Eastern Province tournaments.  In addition to the after-school clubs, there is also an intramural program that runs at lunch time and is open to any student in P7 upward.  Typical offerings are: table tennis, volleyball, cricket, basketball, soccer, and floor hockey.

Buses

Transport to and from home is provided for those students living in the Royal Commission area. Those living in compounds use their respective compound buses. Students attending after-school clubs are taken home at 3.35pm. Students using private transport must arrange to be collected later if they participate in after-school clubs.
