Early Years
The IPC Early Years Programme is
designed to support the learning of 4 and 5 year olds. It helps
them develop the skills and attitudes they need to work towards
the Milepost One learning goals, through four main aims:
-
To help children learn the subject knowledge,
skills and understanding they need to become aware of the world around
them.
-
To help children develop the personal skills they
need to take an active part in the world throughout their lives.
-
To help children develop an international mind-set
alongside their awareness of their own nationality.
-
To deliver the curriculum in ways which take into
account up-to-date research into how children learn and how they can be
encouraged to be life-long learners.
The learning of children aged four to five is
described in four strands
- Independence & Interdependence
Children learn about

- their relationship with others

The learning strands are taught through units of work.
There are sixteen units each based on a theme chosen to appeal to young
children – Sand and Water, Animals, Patterns, Treasure - and each unit
consists of a wide variety of activities. The organization of the teaching
of these units is flexible and the units can be mixed and matched to respond
to our local conditions.
Maths and Language are taught as separate subjects
linking with IPC whenever appropriate.
